Baguia Tree Trust
The Baguia Community Tree Cooperative is a subsistence community consisting of 130 land owners located in the Baucau District of Timor Leste. The Tree Cooperatives are establishing a large scale reforestation and land management project as well as an online carbon offsetting program. -
School-based propagation nurseries
WithOneSeed has developed school-based educational programs in conjunction with local educators in Timor and the Royal Botanic Gardens - Carnbourne, Victoria. The programs are designed to provide students with knowledge and practical experience in plant propagation, while supplying saplings from the nursery to the Community Tree Cooperatives. -
Planting the forests
The Community Tree Cooperatives will plant saplings on an annual basis. Reforestation will assist communities adapt to climate change and grow sustainably by building local economies, boosting education, training and employment, raising living standards and improving infrastructure. -
Community Tree Cooperative management and annual payments
The Community Tree Cooperative farmers receive an annual payment for managing and maintaining the plantations of mahogany, teak and sandalwood trees. The plantations will improve water and soil conservation by reducing soil degradation and erosion, while contributing to the removal of carbon from the atmosphere. -
Training and employment opportunities
WithOneSeed will provide training, skills development and employment opportunities to the community. Members of the community will be trained to audit, track and map the trees to collect data about the growth and development of the Tree Cooperative plantations. The installation of wireless broadband access will allow the Tree Cooperatives to participate in online trading of carbon offsets. -
Community Tree Cooperative funding
WithOneSeed's Tree Cooperative Funding is based on Computer Emissions Fund. The fund provides a sustainable revenue stream for the Tree Cooperatives and the community. It also provides opportunities for Australian schools, businesses and government to offset their technology emissions, while supporting community development in Timor Leste. The installation of wireless broadband access will facilitate online marketing of carbon offsets. -
Distribution of funds
WithOneSeed will pass income raised through the Computer Emissions Fund to Tree Cooperatives and the community to build a village based economy.
The Community Tree Cooperatives will pay each farmer for the trees they have maintained annually, as well as providing fund for whole-community development projects. -
